A late race pit call and an extremely fast race car landed Martin Truex Jr. in victory lane for the third time of 2018 and second time at Sonoma. A call to pit then not to pit set out a delusion that the team was going to pit with the rest of the field, that wasn't the case. With fresher tires, Truex Jr. was able to rocket away with the victory.
Kevin Harvick was chasing down Truex with his teammate Clint Bowyer in tow. Harvick finished the race in second followed by teammate Bowyer. Chase Elliott finished the race in fourth while Kyle Busch rounded out the top-five.
