Roughly 47 hours after the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 was slated to start on Saturday, John Hunter Nemechek held off a late charge from NCWTS rookie Kyle Benjamin to take the checkered flag. The victory was the sixth of his career in the series and first of the 2018 season.
Nemechek led 31 of the 250 laps on Monday (March 26th). Nemechek made a daring three-wide pass during a late race restart to take the lead. Benjamin took a gamble at the mid-point of the race that almost resulted in his first career victory in his first start. Benjamin would tap the No. 8 coming out of turn four but he'd run out of time and would come up second in his NCWTS debut.
Brett Moffitt, Grant Enfinger, and Noah Gragson rounded out the top five.
The race was slowed by caution a total of 10 times for 68 laps. On Saturday, the series completed 24 laps but when rain began to fall the red flag was displayed then the race was ultimately postponed. The race was slated to run on Sunday evening following the Cup race. When snow fell from the sky on Saturday night, officials from both NASCAR and Martinsville decided to postpone all on-track action until Monday. It was only the second time in the history of the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 that the race was run on Monday.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes April off and returns in May at the Dover International Speedway.
