Stephen Leicht joins JP Motorsports for 2018 Season

JP Motorsports is proud to announce Stephen Leicht will join the organization in 2018. The announcement comes just days after the team announced its formation and 2018 plans. Leicht will pilot the No. 55 Toyota Camry beginning at Daytona next month.

“We are excited to welcome Stephen Leicht to the family,” said team owners Phyllis and Jerry Hattaway. “Stephen (Leicht) has proved himself in the XFINITY Series in the past and we are really looking forward to giving him an opportunity to build on that success.”

The 31-year old from Asheville North Carolina made six starts in the XFINITY Series last season with a best finish of 35th at Homestead with RSS Racing. Leicht is looking to complete his first full-time season since his most successful season back in 2007. That season Leicht earned his first career victory at Kentucky with Robert Yates Racing. Leicht has a total of 82 starts in the series over eight years and has collected three top-fives and 16 top-ten finishes.

“I’m extremely excited and honored,” said Leicht. “I’ve been searching for a long time to find a way back into this sport on a full-time basis and this is the first opportunity I’ve had to do that in over 10 years. I can’t thank Jerry and Phyllis Hattaway along with Jason Houghtaling enough for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I will be giving them 110% on and off the track at all times. I can’t wait to get started.”

Leicht also has 18 starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, most recently last season at Pocono with BK Racing. In that race, Leicht would finish 32nd after starting 36th. In those 18 starts, Leicht has a best finish of 24th at Richmond with Tommy Baldwin Racing in 2011.

Tune into the PowerShares QQQ 300 at the Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 17th at 2:30 p.m. ET on FS1 to see Stephen Leicht take to the high banks of Daytona for the first time with JP Motorsports. (Koelle,2018)
