Spire Motorsports Adds Corey LaJoie to 2021 Cup Series Lineup

Corey LaJoie has announced he will pilot the newly formed No. 7 for Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021.

LaJoie joined Go Fas Racing in 2019 tallying up three top-10 finishes with the organization. During his time with the organization, he earned his career-best finish of sixth last July at Daytona. In 2020, LaJoie tallied an eighth-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona despite being involved in the last lap accident with Ryan Newman. A season highlight included leading his first career laps in the NASCAR Cup Series (his first career lap led came in the Daytona 500). He'd finish 30th in Cup Series points standings.

LaJoie announced on August 21st that he'd be leaving the organization adding LaJoie to the giant pool of free agents and Spire Motorsports added a second car to their organization and on Monday, it was made official that Spire had acquired LaJoie for the 2021 season and beyond.

“The next chapter of my racing career provides me with a unique opportunity to play a key role in working with a motivated leadership group to build a competitive NASCAR Cup Series team from the ground up,” LaJoie said in the team release. “I’m thankful to work directly with Spire Motorsports co-owners Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchyr and all of our partners as we build on the proud and competitive tradition associated with the No. 7. We expect to be a force in the garage for years to come.”

Spire Motorsports made its debut in the NASCAR Cup Series in the 2019 Daytona 500 with Jamie McMurray. Chip Ganassi Racing has teamed with the organization in that Daytona 500 along with multiple races with Ross Chastain. Outside of teaming with CGR, Spire has had multiple other drivers run the No. 77. NASCAR Cup Series veteran Reed Sorenson has made the most combined starts for the organization at 23. Since their debut in 2019, Spire Motorsports has made 72 starts in the Cup Series.
