John Hunter Nemechek Passes Daniel Hemric Late to Secure First Career XFINITY Series Victory

John Hunter Nemechek had a better car during the final run and was able to pass Daniel Hemric with 28 laps to go to secure his first career victory in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In a race highlighted by action, an opportunity arose for drivers like Matt Tifft, Daniel Hemric, Elliott Sadler, and Tyler Reddick as Justin Allgaier, Christopher Bell, and Austin Cindric were involved in an accident on the very first lap.

Hemric led 128 laps and won the first stage to enter the off-weekend with a solid amount of points. Despite getting passed for the lead, Hemric still held off Sadler for second. Sadler finished the race in third while Shane Lee and Reddick rounded out the top-five.

With John Hunter Nemechek earning the victory, it guarantees at least two drivers will make Homestead-Miami on points. Daniel Hemric sits +23 points over the cut-off line and is the points leader as we enter the final off weekend of the season. Elliott Sadler (+14) sits second while Tyler Reddick (+11) and Christopher Bell (+1) round out the top-four spots in points.

As noted, the series takes the weekend off while Cup and Trucks head to Martinsville. The XFINITY Series returns on November 3rd for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Erik Jones is the defending race winner but will not be entered in the race. The last XFINITY Series regular to win at Texas was Trevor Bayne in 2011, Bayne is also the only XFINITY regular to ever win the fall race at Texas.
