NASCAR CEO Brian France Arrested for DUI, Possession of Oxycodone

NASCAR CEO and Chairman Brian France was arrested around 7:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday (August 5th) on charges for aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance per a Sag Harbor Village (New York) Police Department news release.

"Mr. France was observed operating a 2017 Lexus northbound on Main Street failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign," said the release. "Upon traffic stop, it was determined that Mr. France was operating said vehicle in an intoxicated condition.

"Upon search of his person, due to a lawful arrest, Mr. France was in possession of oxycodone pills."

Per the release, Mr. France was arrested and held overnight for arraignment on Monday (August 6th). At 9:30 a.m. EDT, France was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

TMZ first reported the news at 8:39 a.m. EDT. According to TMZ, France's blood alcohol level was allegedly more than twice the legal limit at the time of his arrest. The legal limit in the state of New York is .08%.

TMZ also reported that during the arrest, France name-dropped multiple powerful people he knows including President Donald J. Trump.

Sag Harbor, New York is located in Suffolk County with a reported population of 2,169 from the 2010 census. It's near the end of Long Island and is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes away from New York City. The city is part of The Hamptons.

"We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are in the process of gathering information. We take this as a serious matter and will issue a statement after we have all of the facts," NASCAR said in a statement.

Per Bob Pockrass with ESPN, - "Under NASCAR's substance abuse policy, Brian France could be suspended and required to go through a recovery program, or he could be subjected to drug testing."
