Jim France to Serve as Interim Chairman and CEO of NASCAR; Statement from NASCAR and Brian France

At 4:59 p.m. ET, NASCAR and Brian France both released a statement regarding the future of both parties. Per France's statement, he will be taking an indefinite leave of absence to focus on personal affairs. Below is both parties statements.

Brian France's Statement - “I apologize to our fans, our industry and my family for the impact of my actions last night. Effective immediately, I will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from my position to focus on my personal affairs.”

NASCAR's Statement - “Brian France has taken an indefinite leave of absence from NASCAR as chairman and chief executive officer. Effective immediately, NASCAR Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President Jim France has assumed the role of interim chairman and chief executive officer.”

Jim France, 73, is the son of NASCAR co-founder Bill France Sr. Per Forbes, France has sat on Nascar's board of directors since 2000. France has held multiple roles in the sport during his life including CEO of International Speedway Corporation (ISC).
