Dalton Sargeant and GMS Racing Part Ways Effective Immediately

GMS Racing announced on Wednesday morning that Dalton Sargeant would be leaving the organization effective immediately. The news comes after Sargeant missed the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series playoffs. The organization has two trucks represented in the playoffs in the form of Justin Haley and Johnny Sauter.

“Due to an unfortunate circumstance with Sargeant Motorsports, Dalton Sargeant will no longer compete with GMS Racing full-time in the Truck Series for the remainder of the 2018 season.” Mike Beam, President of GMS Racing, said in a statement released by the team. “Until the issue is resolved, Spencer [Gallagher] will serve as the fill-in driver of the No. 25 Chevrolet entry beginning this weekend in Canada. We hope a solution can be agreed upon and to see Dalton back racing GMS equipment in the near future.”

Sargeant was in the middle of his first full-time season in the Camping World Truck Series. In 16 starts he secured one top five, four top 10's, and led his first laps ever in the series at Daytona in February. The performance was there for Sargeant but the finishes weren't and it ultimately led to the two parties splitting ways.

"This is unfortunate for everyone involved," said Sargeant in a statement on Twitter. "But all we can do is stay focused and work hard toward the 2019 racing season."

Sargeant missing the playoffs had to ultimately lead to this decision as that was their season. The remainder of the season for drivers like Sargeant is just practice basically for the 2019 season so for Sargeant to take a step back and evaluate his decision for next season could be a huge gamble but in the end, it could pay off.
