Paul Menard Earns First Top-Five of 2018 with Gutsy Call at Michigan

Paul Menard was able to secure his first top-five finish of 2018 on Sunday during the rain-shortened FireKeepers 400 at Michigan. On top of earning his first top-five finish of 2018, he also earned Wood Brothers Racing their 346th top-five finish in their 1,525th start. A gutsy call, in the end, resulted in a strong finish for the No. 21.

“We had a good car today and all weekend," said Menard. "We didn’t qualify as good as we would have hoped and went from the back and got put to the back twice. Once I sped and another time we got door slammed. I am really proud of my guys. We made a gutsy call to stay out on no tires with a bunch of laps on it. Gutsy call. We had the car to hold on though, so it worked out.”

Menard's first top-five finish with Wood Brothers Racing was just a sign that WBR is on the right track with Menard and with some work the team can become a permanent staple inside the top 10. Menard has improved himself in the No. 21 from his previous years behind the wheel of RCR's No. 27 and with time, Menard could land Wood Brothers their 100th victory in the Cup Series. (Koelle,2018)
