Brett Moffitt Holds off Hard Charging Noah Gragson for Iowa Victory

NEWTON, IA, - Brett Moffitt held off a last-lap slide job from Noah Gragson to earn his second victory of the 2018 season and third of his career. Moffitt led 76 of the races 200 laps en-route to the victory at his home track.

“This is everything,” said Moffitt. “Being in my home state on Father’s Day weekend — my dad has done everything for me in my career and been my rock my whole life.”

Gragson made a slide job move of sorts on Moffitt in the final turn but couldn't get it to stick as he rode up the track smacked the wall, but still, he earned a second place finish.

“Video game style racing there,” Gragson said. “It’s fun racing at this track. I drove it in there ... just overshot a little bit.”

Harrison Burton, who won the pole, finished third while David Gilliland and Johnny Sauter rounded out the top-five. There were six cautions for 44 laps with one main incident taking out a good chunk of the contenders. On lap 137, Matt Crafton lost a tire and got into John Hunter Nemechek who then hit Ben Rhodes. As Crafton slid up the track he had hooked Stewart Friesen, who had dominated the early stages of the race.
