Spotty Weather Forecast Causes NASCAR to Push Start for Food City 500

NASCAR has announced they have moved the start time for tomorrows Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The race will start an hour earlier because of the threat of rain on Sunday.

The green flag was initially planned for 2:13 p.m. ET but is now planned for 1:13 p.m. ET. The scheduled distance for tomorrows Food City 500 is 500 laps but should the field reach lap 250 (end of stage two) then the race will be official.

The Weather Channel reports that there is a 100% chance of rain with an inch of rain likely on Sunday. It reports that Sunday Night will be cloudy with showers with the chance of rain being 70%. The rain chance hits 45% at 9 a.m. ET and then progresses as the day continues. There's currently a 90% chance when the race begins at 1 p.m. ET. Should NASCAR decide to hold off and wait and see, we could see the Food City 500 ran tomorrow night. 8 p.m. has a 35% chance of rain while the remainder of the night has a 40% or higher percent chance of rain until 11 a.m. on Monday.

Should the Food City 500 be pushed to Monday, The Motorsports News Source will cover the event from the track. (Koelle,2018)
