Oddball Statistics - O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas

When it comes to statistics there are some very interesting one that come out of NASCAR. Whether it be a driver who has gone an x ammount of number of races without a victories or a driver has an x ammount of number of races without a top five. In a new series here at The Motorsports News Source we're going over Oddball statistics of each individual race. For some drivers these stats could be good while other stats could be bad for that driver.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. Here is the first edition of Oddball Statistics.

Negative Statistics at Texas Motor Speedway

  • Of all the active drivers, Jamie McMurray has the most attempts of winning at Texas. On top of leading active drivers, McMurray has the record of all drivers with 28 which means he's continuing to set his own record.
  • Should David Ragan fail to tally a top-five finish on Sunday, He'll tie Dave Blaney with the most starts without a top five finish. He currently has 22 starts at Texas without a top five, Blaney set the record with 23 races.
  • In those 28 races that McMurray has attempted, he's failed to tally a pole in those starts. That is the record for most races without a pole at the Texas Motor Speedway.
  • In 18 starts, AJ Allmendinger has never led a lap at the Texas Motor Speedway. Allmendinger continues to set the record as he holds it with those 18 starts.

Positive Statistics at Texas Motor Speedway

  • Should the Stewart Haas Racing teammates of Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch start Sunday's race at the Texas Motor Speedway, it'll be the 31st start at Texas for each driver. The current record is 30 set by five drivers (Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch, and Jeff Gordon).
  • Jimmie Johnson holds the most victories at Texas with seven. The closest to him is Carl Edwards with four victories, but Edwards of course no longer races in NASCAR. The closest active drivers to him would be Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin who have two victories a piece.
  • Johnson also holds the most top-five (15) and top-10 (21) finishes.
  • Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch will battle to hold the most poles at Texas. Both drivers have two pole positions at Texas, that is the record.
  • If Kurt Busch can complete 107 laps or more on Sunday he will surpass Matt Kenseth's record of 9,951 laps turned at Texas. Busch currently has 9,845 laps.
  • Chevrolet and Ford will battle for supremacy on Sunday, should one of the two manufactueres win, they will hold the most victory at Texas with 14. Toyota has five while Dodge has won three times.
