Erik Jones Seeking First Career Cup Win at Site of First XFINITY Victory

Erik Jones heads to a rather special track on Sunday where he'll pilot the No. 20 Reser's Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Texas Motor Speedway was the sight of Jones first career victory in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2015. He sweeped the XFINITY Series races at Texas last season and on Sunday, he'll look to secure his first career victory in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

His second career start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series came at Texas where he was filling in for the suspended Matt Kenseth. He would finish 12th in that race, setting the cornerstone for his future in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Following a lackluster performance in the spring race at Texas, Jones earned a tenth place finish in his reutrn to Fort Worth, Texas. The track was also where the driver from Byron, Michagan was given his high school diploma in 2014, he was competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event that year.

In six starts in 2018 after moving over to the No. 20, Jones has a best finish of eighth at Las Vegas last month. His streak of top-10 finishes came to an end after he finished 17th at Martinsville two weeks ago. With his performance so far this season, Jones sits 12th in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points. Jones enters a stretch of tracks that were strong for him last season including Bristol and at anytime, Jones can secure the victory and his spot in the playoffs. (Koelle,2018)
