DJ Kennington Posts Strong 27th Place Finish at Bristol

On Sunday & Monday, DJ Kennington made his ninth start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Kennington piloted the No. 96 Humboldt Broncos Tribute Toyota Camry in the Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Kennington survived the chaos that took place in the first stage on Sunday and then was able to continue on Monday despite having damage to his car.

Kennington qualified the race in the 37th position. As the race began, Kennington began making strides around the "World's Fastest Half-Mile". During the first crash on lap five, cars in front of Kennington piled up and it resulted in some damage to the nose of Kennington's car. The team taped up the car and kept it running competitively as the aerodynamics aren't as important on short tracks. Kennington would continue to push on and on until rains would postpone the race to Monday.

Cold weather would hit the area around Bristol on Monday as the Food City 500 would resume. Kennington would continue to battle despite sustaining damage the previous day. Kennington would battle on his own for the 27th place finish being as he was the only driver who was 18 laps down, the next position ahead of him was just six laps down while the next behind him was 25 laps down. The 27th place finish would be the third-best finish of his career and second of the 2018 season. With the finish, Kennington's average finish for 2018 would improve from 27.66 to 27.5. In just four starts, improvement is evident and it'll be exciting to see what he can do the more starts he makes this season. (Koelle,2018)
