Stewart Haas Racing Will Not Appeal Las Vegas Penalty

Following Kevin Harvick's victory on Sunday, one of Harvick's owners Tony Stewart revealed that the organization will not appeal the penalties from last weekend. Harvick was assessed an L1-level penalty last Wednesday. The penalty resulted in Rodney Childers getting a $50,000 fine, Car Chief Robert Smith suspended for Sunday's race at ISM Raceway and next weekend in Fontana. The team was also deducted 20 drivers and owners points.

"No, we're not going to appeal it," Stewart said in the media center following the race. “How many appeals have you seen overturned?”

As do all of the winning cars in the cup series, Harvick's No. 4 Jimmy John's Ford Fusion will be sent back to NASCAR R&D this week for further inspection. Kyle Busch's No. 18 and Chase Elliott's No. 9 will also go back to the R&D center. Harvick will be chasing his fourth straight victory next weekend at Auto Club Speedway.

Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. all had one un-secure lugnut on their cars which will result in a monetary fine for the crew chief. Last weekend Todd Parrott, crew chief for Premium Motorsports, received a $10,000 fine for this penalty last weekend. (Koelle,2018)
