Kevin Harvick Penalized Following Las Vegas Victory

Kevin Harvick was assessed an L1-level penalty on Wednesday following Sunday's Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas. The No. 4 Jimmy John's Ford Fusion was in the spotlight on social media after photos of the rear window and rear of the roof buckling from the g-forces in the turns. Rodney Childers spoke about the incident on SiriusXM NASCAR radio on Tuesday stating that a "part failure" was to blame for that happening.

Inbetween the race on Sunday and when the penalties were announced on Wednesday night, NASCAR found rocker panel extension to be something different than the specified aluminum and that the rear window wasn't up to the specifications NASCAR has in place.

For those reasons, NASCAR assessed an L1-level penalty which results in Rodney Childers being fined $50,000 while car chief Robert Smith has been suspended for the next two MENCS championship point paying events (ISM Raceway and Auto Club Speedway). The team also loses 20 driver and owner points along. The biggest part of the equation is that Harvick's first-place finish on Sunday along with the two playoff points he obtained from winning both stages will not benefit him in the playoffs.

Also on this weekends penalty report, the No. 55 of Joey Gase received a safety violation for one missing lug-nut during post-race inspection which results in crew chief Todd Parrott received a $10,000 fine. (Koelle,2018)
