Flat Tire Ends TicketGuardian 500 Early for Paul Menard

Two out of the last three races, Paul Menard earned top 10 finishes. On Sunday, Menard possibly could've strung along another top-10 finish but on lap 189, Menard lost a tire on the exit of turn two and backed it into the outside wall.

“I think the tire went down. The right-rear tire blew," said Menard. "Not sure what caused it. Maybe bead temp or something. I am not really sure what caused it. We will have to go back and look at it. The tire is definitely down. Not sure what came first, the chicken or the egg."

Despite Kevin Harvick winning the race, Ford had a dismal performance at ISM Raceway. Menard lacked speed the entire finish with qualifying the best performance of the weekend. He qualified for the race in 14th, his second best effort of 2018.

"It is a disappointing day for sure. We made some good adjustments early and I thought we would be okay. I had a hard time getting in the corner that last run and we started backing up, then something happened to the tire.”

Menard now heads to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The track in Southern California has been rather good to him in recent years. He has finished inside the top 10 three out of the last five races, including a top-five finish in 2015 (fourth). Can Menard put ISM Raceway behind him and capitalize on past Auto Club Speedway success.
