Despite having to start from the rear of the field in Friday nights Stratosphere 200, Dalton Sargeant capitalized on a strong truck to earn his best career finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. In eight previous starts in the NCWTS his best career finish came in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona where he finished eighth. On Friday though he was able to better that result and earn a sixth-place finish.
“We had a good finish in the No. 25 Performance Plus Chevy," said Sargeant. "Really, all of GMS Racing had a good night. All weekend we had an issue with just raw speed. My guys worked really hard throughout the weekend to try and find the issue, but never could. We probably should have finished outside the top-10 with the issues, but we clawed our way to the front there at the very end. Doug (Randolph) made some great calls on the pit box to get us track position all night but we just couldn’t ever maintain it over a long run. With such a short run at the end, we were able to hang on and finish sixth.”
The sixth-place finish was a way to rebound from a tough weekend in Atlanta after being involved in an accident with Josh Reaume. Now the Boca Raton, FL has two weeks off to build on the momentum and look to finish better than his last appearance at Martinsville. Sargeant has one start at "The Paperclip" coming back in 2015 where he finished 28th.
"My hat is off to the guys on this race team; they’ll go back to the shop and tear everything apart and find the issue. We’ll come back and be a lot better for Martinsville (Speedway)." (Koelle,2018)
