Stephen Leicht Survives to Earn Best Finish Since Memphis in 2009

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - The NASCAR XFINITY Series season began on Saturday at the Daytona International Speedway for the PowerShares QQQ 300. The season started off strong for JP Motorsports driver Stephen Leicht.

While having to battle with the field, Leicht also had to battle with the heat as the No. 55 entry was without a cool box. Leicht was able to stay out of most of the trouble during the race and keep his car clean to come home with a 15th place finish. The 15th place finish was his best since Memphis in 2009.

“I am just glad Jerry is happy man,” Leicht said following the PowerShares QQQ 300. “That is what we needed as a team. The first time I have ever finished Daytona and didn’t wreck. The first time I have ever finished on the lead lap and in the top-15. It was exactly what we needed for a good points day for the first race of the season. We got a car in one piece and we know what we need to work on to make it better. Our car isn’t a pusher it was a leader and we want to get it to where it’ll push just as good as it leads. It was just an all-around good day.”

With the 15th place finish on Saturday, Leicht sits 13th in NASCAR XFINITY Series points, the best since Homestead in 2007. Leicht heads to the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday for the Rinnai 250. It'll be his third appearance at AMS in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. (Koelle,2018)
