Ryan Blaney Continues Consistent Run at Atlanta

Ryan Blaney posted another strong run on Sunday in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 in Atlanta. A 12th place finish was the result of a night of catch up. The evening was driven to continue the momentum from his Daytona 500 performance.

“We kind of started behind the eight ball,” said Blaney. “We started way back in 26th. We made good ground early and continued to work on our car and I think during the first stage break we got a penalty on pit road (man over the wall to soon) so we had to go all the way to the back. It took a long time for us to make that up and we were kinda stuck in that 10th-13th range. I feel like that was the best we were able to get, it was a good effort."

The delay pushed the start of the event a few hours which set everyone off just a little including Blaney. Though the threat of weather surrounded the entire race, Blaney had confidence the race was going to be completed and would go the full distance and it did.

“They told me there was some rain I think after the second stage. They told me there was rain maybe 20 miles out but it wasn’t really moving fast but I felt pretty confident it would finish. The delay of the start of the race was definitely a little strange, you know you want to get going but just the way mother nature goes.”

Blaney leaves Atlanta second in points to teammate Joey Logano. He now treks to a track he's been rather good at lately. In three starts at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Blaney has two top ten finishes and the best start of third last season.

"This isn’t my best track, I tend to struggle here," Blaney said about Atlanta. "It was nice to run all of the laps and to be able to come home with a decent finish and head to Vegas where I really like that place.” (Koelle,2018)
