Darlington Raceway Announce Fan Experience Enhancement Renovations

On Wednesday, officials from Darlington Raceway announced that the track will be undergoing some renovation to improve the fan experience at the famed 1.366-mile speedway in Darlington South Carolina. The renovations will begin immediately, with the grandstands in the spotlight. The project called A Better Darlington will feature renovations to the tracks Tyler, Wallace and Colvin Grandstands that will improve fan comfort.

Those grandstands will receive new seats, similar to those at the Daytona International Speedway that was placed during the "Daytona Rising" project but with a retro look in the way of the paint scheme. The Tyler Tower grandstands pitch will be improved, providing better sightlines and viewing experience which is a very important aspect of the whole fan experience. The current metal seats will be removed and replaced with more comfortable stadium-style seats with cup holders, much like what is at Daytona.

The metal seats in the Wallace Grandstands will be replaced with bench style seats with backs that'll provide fans with a wider and more comfortable seating experience. The Colvin Grandstands will also receive a makeover with the bench seating, along with refurbished concession areas and restroom areas. All of the makeovers will provide a better fan experience and will hopefully make for an experience that the fan won't forget.

Much like many tracks in the ISC family, Darlington Raceway grandstands will now become non-smoking areas. This is to provide a healthier environment for families with kids looking to attend events at Darlington. Don't worry smokers, as the Darlington Raceway family hasn't ruined your party yet. They will have designated smoking areas that'll allow you to enjoy a smoke while on track property, making everyone happy.

Darlington Raceway is also looking to get you the fans as close as possible to the action with the addition of more cross-over gates. This will give fans the opportunity to enjoy more pre-race activities including driver intros, pre-race concert, and more.

History has always been a big deal especially with the race being NASCAR's throwback weekend. To help glorify those legends who have won the Bojangles Southern 500, Darlington will add banners at the bottom of the Wallace and Colvin grandstands. These people built both Darlington and NASCAR into what it is today. This year, Darlington will help NASCAR celebrate "Seven Decades of NASCAR," in tribute to the 70th birthday of the sport.

Tickets for the Bojangles Southern 500 and Sports Clips Haircut VFW 200 can be obtained at the Darlington Raceway website and by phone at 866-459-7223. The "Throwback Weekend" is slated for August 29th and September 1st and 2nd. (Koelle,2018)
