Alex Labbé Posts Strong Finish in First Race at Atlanta

In just his fifth XFINITY Series start, the 2017 NASCAR Pinty's Series Champion earned his best career finish at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday. Labbé qualified 33rd and worked his way up through the field to finish 18th.

“It went pretty good,” said Labbé. “I think it went over our expectations, we fought with a lot of good cars out there and we had a lot of speed. We were tight there but we didn’t really know what to work on. We are really looking forward to Vegas next week, our Can-Am/Wholey car was pretty awesome today.”

After competing in 40 races in the NASCAR Pinty's Series, Labbé made the move to the XFINITY Series in 2018. The schedule is one of the most difficult things Labbé is getting used to. The NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule consists of 13 races, while the XFINITY Series schedule consists of 33 races.

“It's a completely different world of tracks,” said Labbé after we asked about the differences between the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series. “The intensity where going back to back every week is different too. I love the challenges and I think it is a really good challenge, I have a really good team including my crew chief Mario Gosselin. He never gives up and I am sure we’ll have some strong runs here as the season continues.”

The Motorsports News Source learned that Alex Labbé will be focusing on running the full season in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2018. He may compete in select Pinty's Series events in 2018 similar to what Jeffrey Earnhardt did in 2016 with partnership from Can-Am. Labbé currently sits 17th in NASCAR XFINITY Series points and is 12 points out of the XFINITY Series playoff field. (Koelle,2018)
