The Motorsports News Source Playlist - Theme to the 60th Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 turns 60 this year and looking at the history of the event there has been big, legendary, and monumental moments. Time has ticked and the biggest stars of the sport have come and gone. This season is a season of change with two of the biggest drivers walking away following the 2017 season in the form of Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr., while Danica Patrick will be making her final start of her NASCAR career behind the wheel of the No. 7.

The sport has also returned the #DaytonaDay promotion but has also added a commercial that highlights how special the 500 actually is, something the #DaytonaDay promo is missing. Now, you the fans will decide what song will be the theme of the Daytona 500. "Paradise" by Coldplay has won the last two seasons and returns to the ballot this year. The poll, as always will be to the right of this article and we need your help to decide the theme. Here are the nominees for the theme of the Daytona 500. You have 22 days to vote so be sure to share this post!

"Paradise" by Coldplay - 2x Winner

The last two seasons, "Paradise" by Coldplay has taken the fan vote as the theme to the Daytona 500. This year it is looking for a three-peat, should that happen it'll permanently become the main theme song and retire from "The Motorsports News Source Playlist" article for 2019.

This song has been used around the Daytona 500 in the past including being involved in the FOX commercial for 2013. The song has the sound you would be searching for when it comes to how special this race is to everyone involved. Whether you are a member of the media, a driver, or even a fan in the stands, Daytona in February is truly paradise.

A driver dreams of going to victory lane in the Daytona 500 because it is the sports biggest race. It's filled with so much history and should you win the 500, you instantly become an icon in the sport. There is something special about Daytona and maybe that's because of the long split between Homestead in November and Daytona in February, it's kind of like that first day of school.

"Legendary" by Welshly Arms

This song returns to the ballot for the second straight season. Legendary is a song by the group Welshly Arms, the song that has really put them in the spotlight over the last few years. This song has been featured in the Game Seven promo for the World Series in 2016 between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians, was the theme to WWE TLC in 2017, and many other events that mean something.

This song fits the Daytona 500 being as once you win the event, you become legendary. Over its' 60 year history, the true legends of the sport have gone to victory lane in the event. Richard & Lee Petty, Fred Lorenzen, Mario Andretti, Cale Yarborough, A.J Foyt, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, and many others have earned their legendary status by becoming the champion of the Daytona 500. Every driver wants that status on their resume.

This song has the characteristics and feeling of something legendary and it fits the Daytona 500, will you vote this song as the newest theme song to the biggest event of the year?

"Written in the Stars" by Tinie Tempah (feat. Eric Turner)

Flashback to 2011 where this song was used in both the MLB postseason commercial and the theme to WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta, this song has the aspects and lyrics to fit the Daytona 500. The song speaks about giving everything to succeed and in some cases, drivers have had to do that during their career.

A victory in this race is written in the stars and may be far from happening during the race, but ask Derrike Cope how his stars aligned to win the Daytona 500 back in 1990. The song also speaks about the struggles in life and those can be seen through the eyes of a NASCAR driver. A driver could have a rough career or rough previous season and when you win the Daytona 500, you look back on the past and see that what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

The last time this song was on the ballot was the first season, it makes its return this season, Will it be "Written in the Stars"? for this song to become the newest theme of the Daytona 500 this time around?

"Walk on Water" by Thirty Seconds to Mars

Making its' debut on the ballot, "Walk on Water" by Thirty Seconds to Mars highlights many of the things that will happen this upcoming season. Multiple times during the song, you hear "Times are changin'" and this season nothing could be truer than that statement. You see drivers like Erik Jones, William Byron, Alex Bowman, and many of the younger generation stepping up to the top step with the veterans in the sport.

This song was used in College Football a lot in 2017 including during the promos for the College Football Playoff, another big event in the sports world. The song calls to society to take a hold on the future, which is exactly what the young guns are doing. The odds of this Daytona 500 being won by one of the young guns is higher than it has been for many years.

Do you believe this song will become the newest theme to the Daytona 500?
