Iwuji Earns Clearance to Run Lucas Oil 200 after Daytona Test

Jesse Iwuji was one of the many drivers to take to the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway last weekend during the annual ARCA test. It was the Carrollton, TX natives first chance at competing on a super-speedway and first time in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Iwuji, with Patriot Motorsports Group, had previously, competed in 31 races in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. The tracks on that schedule are short tracks all across the United States so Daytona was slightly different.

"Testing at Daytona was an amazing learning experience to finally get a chance to feel the draft at those speeds," Iwuji said. "This was our teams first time with ARCA cars, cars we converted over from K&N and we made it work for the weekend with limited experience."

During the Saturday morning session, Iwuji was 22nd of 50 cars. Returning in the afternoon session, he finished 25th of 41 cars. With the strong performance, Iwuji earned clearance to run the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season-opening Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire next month in Daytona. He will make his ARCA Racing Series debut next month driving the No. 36.

"For not being a high dollar team, both cars finished mid-pack in overall speed for the weekend which is a great first step for our new ARCA program we’re implementing" (Koelle,2018)
