Cody Coughlin Joins GMS Racing in 2018

Cody Coughlin will join GMS Racing this season the organization announced on Tuesday. Coughlin will pilot the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado for his second full-time season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The move to Chevrolet will be the first time since he drove Late Models in 2013.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the GMS Racing family,” Coughlin said in the team release, “as well as be back running for Chevrolet. GMS is a team that has proven to be one of the teams to beat every time they unload at the race track and now I have the same opportunity. I can’t thank GMS Racing, Maury Gallagher and Mike Beam enough for this chance. I think we have the right tools and personnel in place with the No.2 team to run up front and contend for race wins every weekend.”

Coughlin previously piloted the No. 13 Toyota Tundra for ThorSport Racing last season where he finished 13th in NCWTS points. His best career finish came last season at ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix International Raceway) where he posted a third-place finish, his first top-five of his career.

NCWTS veteran Jerry Baxter will be the crew chief for the No. 2 JEGS Chevrolet Silverado. Baxter was the crew chief for Kaz Grala last season where the rookie driver won his first and only career race at Daytona International Speedway. As a crew chief, he has 139 starts in the NCWTS with a total of ten victories among five different drivers. It will be his second season with the GMS Racing organization.

“I’m more than ready to get the 2018 season underway,” said Baxter in the press release. “Last year we raced against Cody every weekend, so I have an idea of the type of driver he is. It will be even better to be able to work with him now firsthand. We have a good group of hard-working guys on the No. 2 that will definitely put us in the position to run well every time we’re at the track.”

It'll be the first time the organization has fielded the No. 2 truck and the first time the organization has fielded four trucks. Coughlin joins Dalton Sargeant, Johnny Sauter, and Justin Haley at GMS Racing in 2018 where the team will seek their second drivers' championship. (Koelle,2018)
