McDowell began at Leavine Family Racing in 2014 running a part time schedule with the team. Last season McDowell piloted the #95 and #59 to the best season of his career and in 2017 new things come for the Phoenix Arizona native. In 2017 McDowell is slated to run his first full-time season of his career behind the wheel of the #95 Chevrolet SS with K-LOVE being the primary sponsor.

Last season McDowell gave it his all and pushed it to the limit to prove his worth in a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series which is something many drivers in the series felt they needed to do in 2016. McDowell was one of those drivers who proved he was worth every dime running excellent on all four Superspeedway races and improving even more at the other tracks on the circuit. In 2017, McDowell will seek to continue to improve and will try and manipulate the new format to his advantage in his first season being eligible for The Playoffs. McDowell will seek to be the underdog this season and make it as far as he can in the Playoffs. McDowell is also seeking his first career victory in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series along with his first Top-5 in the series and the possibility is heavy with McDowell in the 59th Annual Daytona 500. For the first time in his career one thing is for sure and is something that no longer has to be a concern for McDowell and that is he is a lock to make the 59th Daytona 500 in a few weeks. With that concern off of his mind, McDowell can surely focus more on making his hot rod a fast one for the season opening race where he could leave with the first playoff spot of the season.
Also in 2016, McDowell was able to gain his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory with Richard Childress Racing at Road America. With the technical alliance still being with Richard Childress Racing there is a chance we could see McDowell back behind the wheel of an Xfinity Series car with RCR. Whether is be the #2 or #3, McDowell is a definite lock to be competitive behind the wheel of one of Mr. Childress' Chevrolet Camaros'. It's not a lock that McDowell will pilot an Xfinity Series car in 2017 but if he does, Look for victory #2 to be just a race away. (Koelle,2017)
