2017 was definitely the season of his career last season but after a very disappointing engine failure at Talladega. In this new format you can have mistakes just not at some moments like a elimination race at any of the four elimination tracks.

2017 brings change much like 2016 did for the Mayetta New Jersey native. Going into the 2016 Season, Furniture Row Racing moved over to the Toyota Manufacturer which proved to be a very good move which resulted in a record high four victories, a record tying 8 Top-5 finishes, 17 Top-10's, and a record 5 Poles. This season, Martin's team will be adding a second car which for higher funded teams is normally a beneficial thing.
Adding a teammate will be beneficial for Truex in 2017 but really it will benefit Erik Jones more than it will Truex mainly because of the fact that Truex is a veteran in the sport while Jones is a rookie. Truex really already had teammates as shown last year in the form of Joe Gibbs Racing Drivers Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth.
In 2017 Truex will have a little more of a mentor role than he has in the past and I think Truex is the perfect mentor for someone to have because he has been through a lot of good moments and bad moments over his career and has the experience and victories at tracks all through the NASCAR schedule. Just because he's the teacher in 2017 doesn't mean he won't go out on his own and state his own legacy in 17' and I personally think Truex will contend for the Daytona 500 victory along with ultimately competing for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship at the end of the year. I certainly feel Truex will contend for victories just as he has done the last two seasons with Furniture Row and who knows he could pick up victory number uno and click his ticket to the chase at Daytona next month.
