When it comes to the season opening exhibition race at the Daytona International Speedway, drivers who will be featured in the Advanced Auto Parts Clash are drivers who won a pole or qualified for the chase in 2016 or are a former winner of The Clash or pole winner of the Daytona 500. Rookie Daniel Suarez will race in The Advanced Auto Parts Clash thanks to Carl Edwards who stepped away from the #19 Toyota Camry earlier this month. NASCAR announced that the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Daniel Suarez will be able to race in The Advanced Auto Parts Clash because of the fact that Carl Edwards made the chase in 2016 and would have been eligible to race in the season opening exhibition race in Daytona but since Edwards won't race, his predecessor will. It's causing controversy throughout the groups in NASCAR because of the fact that another driver should race in the season opening race for a similar situation. That driver is Clint Bowyer who is taking over for Tony Stewart who retired following the 2016 NASCAR Season. Despite Suarez being eligible, Bowyer remains ineligible which is lighting a fire under many fans. The season opening race will be live on Fox Sports 1 on February 18th.
