Sports Clips has announced that it will return to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2017 but with a different driver than the usual. Sports Clips had sponsored Carl Edwards in the past but in 2017, Edwards has announced he has stepped away from full-time racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The sponsorship moves from Carl Edwards to Denny Hamlin and his #11 Toyota Camry in 2017 while also joining the #77 Toyota Camry of Erik Jones.
Denny Hamlin is returning for his 12th season in the Cup Series with Joe Gibbs Racing. Sports Clips was on Hamlin's #11 once in 2016 with the throwback paint scheme where Hamlin finished 4th after starting 7th. Hamlin has one victory with Sports Clips on board back in 2012 at Atlanta. Sports Clips will adorn the #11 in two races in 2017 with the first appearance in Southern California at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California and then a second race at The Official Throwback Weekend at the Darlington Raceway in September.
Erik Jones will be competing in his first full time season in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series with Furniture Row Racing, who is a Joe Gibbs Racing backed team. Sports Clips joins 5-Hour Energy as a primary sponsorship on the #77 Toyota Camry. Sports Clips will adorn the #77 Toyota Camry at Bristol in April, Daytona and Indianapolis in July, and rounding out the Sports Clips sponsorship schedule will be at Texas in November. Erik Jones will seek to gain Rookie of The Year competing against Ty Dillon and Toyota Teammate Daniel Suarez. (Koelle,2017)
