Gaunt Brothers Racing will return to NASCAR Competition in 2017. With ownership from Triad Racing Technologies president Mark Gaunt. The team will attempt all four Superspeedway events in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series beginning with the 59th Daytona 500 next month. NASCAR Pinty's Series veteran DJ Kennington will pilot the teams #96 Toyota Camry.
Gaunt Brothers previously competed in the NASCAR Pinty's Series in 2011. Gaunt has served in leadership roles at Team Penske, Red Horse Racing, and Red Bull Racing. Gaunt will team with longtime Triad Racing Technologies partner Robby Benton and RAB Racing. RAB Racing will supply the cars, shop space, and technical support.
Kennington's longtime NASCAR Pinty's Series sponsors Castrol and British Columbia based Lordco Auto Parts will co-sponsor DJ in his Daytona 500 debut. Kennington has made 121 starts in the NASCAR Pinty's Series gaining 19 victories, 77 Top-5's, 101 Top-10's, and 11 poles. Kennington has experience in the states racing 5 times in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, 50 times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and last year Kennington made his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at Phoenix where he finished 35th.
