Carl Edwards Announces Leave from Full-Time Racing

In a press conference this morning, Carl Edwards announced that he will be stepping away from NASCAR effective immediately. He is leaving the sport to pursue other interests outside of driving. With Edwards stepping away from racing beginning in 2017 Daniel Suarez will pilot the #19 Arris Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Fox Sports and NBC Sports both confirmed that Carl won't be joining their booths in 2017 which means Edwards is completely walking away.

Carl Edwards made his NASCAR Debut in 2002 at Memphis with The Mittler Brothers in what was at the time the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In 2003, Edwards gained his first NASCAR Victory at Kentucky driving for Roush Fenway Racing. Edwards would gain a total of 6 victories in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with his most recent coming in 2004 at Bristol. In 2005, Edwards would gain his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Atlanta, he would go on to gain a total of 38 victories in the series winning the series Championship in 2007. He'd finish 2nd a total of 4 times over his career in the Xfinity Series. His last race would also be his last victory in the series at Watkins Glen in 2012 with Roush Fenway Racing. Edwards made his Cup Debut in 2004 at Michigan, His first victory would come in 2005 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the spring race. Edwards would win a total of 28 races in his career finishing second in points two times.
