Adding to the wild silly season so far, Roush Fenway Racing announces changes to it's organization for the 2017 NASCAR Premier Series Season. For the first time since 2001, Roush Fenway Racing will not field the #16 as Greg Biffle and Roush Fenway Racing announced they had parted ways a few weeks ago. The team will lease the #16 Charter and Development driver Chris Buescher to JTG Daugherty who will drive a second car for the organization with more details coming in the next few months.

Trevor Bayne will return to Roush Fenway Racing for the third straight season. The Knoxville Tennessee native had a his best season last season at Roush Fenway Racing where he landed two Top-5 finishes and 5 Top-10 finishes. Matt Puccia will crew chief the #6 Entry for Roush Fenway Racing as he did in 2016. Advocare is expected to return to sponsor Trevor in an undetermined amount of races while a new sponsor joins the organization as a primary for Trevor beginning at Atlanta in March. Liberty National Life Insurance Company will sponsor Trevor beginning at Atlanta and will sponsor in an undetermined amount of races following. It will be an associate sponsor on the #6 also.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will return to the Roush Fenway organization for the 5th straight season. Stenhouse has landed at least one Top-5 every season since he's joined RFR in 2013. Last season though he landed four Top-5 finishes with a best finish of 2nd at Bristol in August. Veteran Crew Chief Brian Pattie will oversee the #17 team as the crew chief, moving over from Greg Biffle. Ricky's 2016 Crew Chief Nick Sandler will move to become the Director of Engineering over Roush Fenway Racing. Zest is the only sponsor that has announced it will not return to Ricky in 2017 while some sponsors from Greg Biffle's ride could move to the #17.
2017 could be the Moneyball Season for Roush Fenway Racing. I will have an article up describing what that means. (Koelle,2016)

  3. Roush goes back to a two-car operation. That's quite a painful descent from when he placed all 5 teams in the Chase.
