With a cloudy future in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Cole Whitt returned to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Saturday to plead his case for a ride in 2017. Whitt hasn't started for Premium Motorsports since Kansas where he finished 33rd. Since the #98, the car Whitt has been driving for a majority of the season, has withdrawed. Talladega and Martinsville and the team is expected to withdrawed the #98 this weekend at Texas.
Whitt isn't letting his foggy future bother him and he helped take the spotlight off of that by finishing 12th in Saturday's Texas Roadhouse 200 presented by Alpha Energy Solutions. Whitt was driving the #92 BTS Tire/Goodyear Commercial Tire Ford F-150 for Ricky Benton and RBR Enterprises.
Making his first start in the NCWTS since 2012, Whitt qualified the truck in the 21st position. Over the 200 laps in the race, Whitt was able to make up 10 positions and finish 12th.
Reed Sorenson is entered in both Premium Motorsports entries (The #55 in Cup and #49 in Trucks) for this weekends racing action from the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX. The #92 isn't entered either so we aren't expecting Cole Whitt to be involved in Texas unless the #98 doesn't end up withdrawing. (Koelle,2016)
