History was made tonight as Jimmie Johnson survived one of the most chaotic Ford 400's ever. With this victory Johnson was able to gain his 5th victory of the 2016 Season and his 80th victory of his career. With his 5th victory of his career and 80th victory came the real historic thing was him joining Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Richard Petty as a seven time champion. Johnson was able to finish ahead of the other four chasers to gain his 7th title today in Homestead.

Non-Chasers Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick finished second and third with Joey Logano finishing fourth and Jamie McMurray finishing fifth. Kyle Busch finished 6th while the fourth and final chaser finished 34th after an accident late in the race with Joey Logano that ended up causing a red flag. Carl blocked the #22 of Joey Logano and both raced hard and it ended with Carl nailing the inside wall, ultimately sending him back up the track making major contact with Kasey Kahne and Martin Truex Jr. with Truex going down in flames. It ended Edwards chance at winning the Championship but both Logano and Edwards took the blame calling it a "Racing Maneuver". Johnson took the lead in overtime and rocketed off to take the victory and his seventh championship.

We came down to the fact that today's award had to be a four way tie between the four Chase drivers, all four stayed together a majority of the night and all four were competitive through out the whole race even when they had a substantial lead over the other three. The race came down to who was the luckiest and that is the motto of this new chase format, "Be Lucky". All four drivers made things interesting for you the fans and I think you'd agree that all four gave their absolute all today for you the fans and in the end I think the better and luckier driver came out on top. Now we will see what these four drivers do in 2017 with the next season closer than imagined.
