If you would have asked Blake Koch if he'd been a Championship Contender driving for Chevrolet on August 14th, 2015 he'd think you were insane. August 14th, 2015 was when LeafFilter™ announced they had signed a full time deal with Tri-Star Motorsports for the 2016 Season. A few months later on January 20th, 2016 we found the news back in August to be irrelevant because it was the day Matthew Kaulig announced he would be forming Kaulig Racing who would have a Richard Childress Racing Technical alliance.

In it's Rookie Season, Kaulig Racing has been able to deliver Blake a career season including him gaining a new best finish of 8th twice, once at Richmond in the Spring then at Bristol in August. His previous best finish was 11th at Homestead in 2013 when he drove for RAB Racing. Also a best start came for Koch at Richmond in September where he started 5th. Koch now sits 7th on the Chase Grid entering the First elimination race ever for the Xfinity Series. Blake sits +4 points above the cut line. Blake has done well enough to make it into the Chase and I feel on Sunday he will do well enough to move into Round 2.

Blake's best finish in the next 4 races came at Homestead in 2013, as noted above, which was his previous best finish before he finished 9th at Daytona in February. All Blake needs to do is keep it consistent Sunday afternoon and stay in the Top-10. Blake starts 14th.
With it being just the Freshman season for Kaulig Racing many are really looking forward to seeing what will happen with Kaulig Racing and Blake Koch in their Sophomore Season. Blake Koch looks to remain in the Unexpected Spotlight and maybe hoist his first NASCAR Trophy above his head. Who knows he could hold two at once? (Koelle,2016)
