Round One Victory for Truex at Chicago!

Martin Truex Jr. took the lead with two laps to go from Ryan Blaney after a late race restart which setup NASCAR Overtime. Michael McDowell blew a tire late in the race setting up a NASCAR Overtime with leaders Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. pitting while non-chasers Ryan Blaney and Kasey Kahne stayed out. Blaney had an excellent restart but with Martin Truex Jr. taking 4 tires and fuel coming out first off of pit road. This is Martin Truex Jr.'s third victory of the season, his first 3 win season of his career. Also it's Truex Jr.'s 5th career victory. Joey Logano was able to pass Ryan Blaney to finish second, Chase Elliott third, Ryan Blaney fourth, and Brad Keselowski rounding out the Top-5.

After having a tire go down earlier in the race, Martin Truex Jr. kept up his never give up attitude to land the #78 in victory lane for the third time of 2016. Truex was able to keep a cool calm and collective attitude to gain his first victory in the chase and at Chicagoland. Truex Jr. now doesn't have to worry about Loudon or Dover and can begin to worry about Round Two featuring Charlotte, a track Truex won at earlier this season, Kansas, a track Truex has been very good at the last two years in the Spring, and Talladega, where Truex has won three times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. So Truex is the favorite to win the Championship now as if anyone had any doubts earlier this week.

Next Race for The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

Martin Truex Jr. landed himself in victory lane, now the next two weeks are all about gaining bonus points. Next weekend we head to New Hampshire for the New England 300. There are some drivers who have now dug a hole for themselves in the next two weeks and to try to make it to the next round or try not to make it to Dover in a must win situation. Those drivers include Austin Dillon, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, and Chris Buescher. It will get interesting these next two weeks.
