NASCAR has announced it increase the tolerances for post-race measurements and lug nuts during post-race inspections including the LIS. They have eliminated all lower tier penalties which leaves the penalties where suspensions would be issued and a win would not be allowed to count toward advancement in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
The announcement comes after Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson failed last weekend's post race inspection by a minimal amount. Neither driver will receive any penalties for failing inspection at the Chicagoland Speedway following the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400. Jimmie Johnson remains 8th in points while Martin Truex Jr. will keep the credit of winning Last Sunday. As for this weekend at New Hampshire all 16 Drivers in the Chase will go through post race inspection and it will go down to 12 after Dover and 8 after Talladega, then the final four will all go through post race inspection. Last weekend at Chicagoland, only 9 of the 16 drivers went through the inspection station after Sunday's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400. (Koelle,2016)
