Not being in as much pressure as he was back in July, Alex Bowman drove the #88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS in place for Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the 6th time in 2016. Alex Bowman has done very well behind the wheel of the #88 and to be brought in really last minute without a lot of off season planning, Bowman has impressed many people. Today Bowman was in a different mind set than he had in July.
Bowman started the race in the 18th position, his second best start of 2016. Bowman raced around the upper top-20 and finished the day in an impressive 14th place finish. Bowman takes a week off from the #88 while Jeff Gordon races at Dover. Bowman will then drive the car at Charlotte until Talladega then he will drive the car at Texas through the season finale at Homestead Miami. Bowman is basically working toward securing a ride somewhere in 2017. (Koelle,2016)
