In 297 starts, Michael McDowell had finished 2nd 3 times and 3rd two times. On Saturday McDowell was given the opportunity to drive for legendary and 2017 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Richard Childress. McDowell, a very good Road-Racer, made his 94th start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday and that 94th start would be his first victory in NASCAR.

This weekend at Darlington Michael McDowell will be joining the rest of the field in having a throwback paint scheme but this one means a little bit more to him and his fans than it did when it was revealed. It's that little way to display our appreciation to Richard Childress and Richard Childress for granting McDowell a shot in his Xfinity Series Car that will now go down in the record books as a win in NASCAR.
This weekend McDowell will race the #95 Thrivent Financial Chevrolet SS in the Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. The paint scheme is paying homage to when Richard Childress raced in NASCAR. The car is based off of Childress’ 1973 No. 3 Kansas Jack car. Childress may be a legendary car owner in NASCAR today, but the Winston-Salem, N.C. native started his career in the drivers’ seat and collected six Top-5 and 76 Top-10 finishes between 1969-81. He went on to finish fifth in the NASCAR premier series standings in 1975 before retiring as a driver in 1981. (Koelle,2016)
