In a press conference this morning Furniture Row Racing announced that Erik Jones will drive the #77 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2017. With now teammate Martin Truex Jr. the announcement was made official after being rumored all week long. It comes to no surprise that Erik Jones will be moving up as he is currently a favorite to land the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship this season. The 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion was brought up the Xfinity Series after just one full season in the NCWTS. Erik Jones won his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Phoenix in just his 5th start, he has since won 6 races.
In his first full season the NASCAR Xfinity Series Erik Jones has brought home 3 victories including last weekend at Iowa. Jones also won his first Xfinity Series victory at Texas in just his 9th start. He is a lock into the Chase and certainly could be a favorite for the Championship this season.
On top of all of that Erik also has raced in 3 full races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and one partial where he filled in for Denny Hamlin at Bristol in 2015. His best finish in NSCS was 12th at Texas where he was filling in for the Suspended Matt Kenseth.(Koelle,2016)
