Richard Childress Racing Announce New Driver Additions for 2016 Season

Richard Childress Racing Announced today four new drivers who will pilot the #2 Chevrolet Camaro in upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series Races. The #2 has been driven by Austin Dillon and Paul Menard but becomes challenging when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races somewhere different than the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Today Richard Childress Racing Announced the drivers who will Pilot the #2 at Iowa Speedway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Road America and Kentucky Speedway.
Beginning with next weekend at Iowa Speedway in Newton Iowa, Ben Kennedy will be behind the wheel of the #2 Rudd Chevrolet Camaro. Kennedy has a best finish of 3rd, three times in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He also has Two poles in his career coming at Daytona and Atlanta. He has a total of 6 Top-5's and 17 Top 10's in 56 Starts Ben Kennedy is the grandson of Bill France, Jr. and great-grandson of Bill France, Sr., the founder of NASCAR.
Joining Kennedy will be Sam Hornish Jr.who has not competed in a NASCAR race in 2016 after losing his RPM Ride due to sponsorship trouble. Sam Hornish Jr. is slated to drive the Rheem Chevrolet for RCR at the second Iowa Speedway race of the season on July 30 and Kentucky Speedway on September 24. Hornish brings a wealth of XFINITY Series experience to the driver’s seat of the No. 2 Chevrolet. To date, Hornish has accumulated 110 starts in the XFINITY Series, earning three victories, seven pole awards, 32 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes with 1,124 laps led. Hornish finished 2nd in the Points in 2013 to Austin Dillon.
With an off weekend on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, AJ Allmendinger will join the Rheem team at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 13 for the road course race. In more than 40 career road course starts, Allmendinger has garnered seven wins and five pole awards. AJ Allmendinger's NSCS Team JTG Daugherty Racing is affiliated with Richard Childress Racing and AJ will look to win once again in the Xfinity Series. AJ Allmendinger has 1 top-5 and 3 top 10's in 2016 driving the #47 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Rounding out the season’s road course races, Michael McDowell takes to the seat of the Rheem Chevrolet at Road America. The No. 2 team earned the victory at the Plymouth, Wisc.-based track last season with driver Paul Menard. McDowell has 12 road course starts in the XFINITY Series, collecting three top-five and five top-10 finishes with two pole positions. Could this be the one chance Michael McDowell could finally go to victory lane?
