With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series taking a week off you can't help but notice the absence of a certain driver from the past two races. His name is Michael McDowell and the past two weeks at Pocono and Michigan, McDowell has taken the sidelines to Ty Dillon who finished 21st at Pocono, and 24th at Michigan.
Of course McDowell is now approaching some of his best finishing tracks. Tracks like Sonoma and Daytona along with getting that opportunity with Richard Childress Racing at Elkhart Lake aka. Road America. Some of McDowell's best finishes have came at tracks like this including his best career finish of 7th at Daytona in July of 2016.
McDowell has a heavy background in Road Racing and has shown his worth at them despite racing part time. As McDowell approaches Sonoma you have to see the same attitude as he had when he approached Daytona and Talladega and that is with a look at an extreme opportunity. McDowell finished 15th at Daytona in the Daytona 500 and finished 21st at Talladega but the result didn't show how well he ran during that race making it all the way into the Top-5.
Another prime oppurtunity for Michael McDowell is coming in a few weeks at Elkhart Lake aka. Road America where he will get yet another chance to win in higher equipment with Legendary and Hall Of Fame Inductee Richard Childress. McDowell's current car, the #95 Chevrolet SS, is of course affiliated with Richard Childress in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with McDowell's help there is a heavy chance that it could come down to RCR's #2 or JGR's #18 for the 2016 Owner Points Championship. With one pole at Road America, McDowell could certainly prove his worth in NASCAR and could state his case for a full ride or higher corporation sponsorship. Either way McDowell could light a fire under his career on in the next few weeks and could push his way into a better ride. (Koelle,2016)
