Does the Announce Booth Need an Overhaul?

Brad Keselowski made remarks about Jeff Gordon in the announce booth that really made a lot of fans either happy or angry.
“That’s because Jeff Gordon is in the booth,” Keselowski said. “They need to get some people in the booth who aren’t inbred to the sport and own teams and have internal knowledge, because that’s pretty crappy. But it is what it is.” stated Keselowski. In many cases I would agree with Keselowski but this is something that has been said with not only Gordon but also Steve Letarte last season in the NBC Sports Booth during their coverage of the race beginning at Daytona in July. In most cases I like seeing drivers in the booth because you get the in car knowledge that driver has. Now with that being said I like what the Xfinity Series and Fox are doing with having active drivers being in the booth. When it comes to Sunday's with NASCAR on Fox I really didn't see an issue with Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip, and Larry
McReynolds like it had been for many years and understand that having the commentary of Jeff Gordon still gives fans the chance to see Jeff every Sunday but in my opinion Jeff should be on Jimmie Johnson's pit box as an owner and not up in the broadcast booth but that is strictly my opinion. There are people who have done NASCAR Commentary in the past that I honestly would like to see return up in the booth doing calls every race like Rusty Wallace (who currently does MRN broadcasts), Wally Dallenbach, Kenny Wallace, and Dick Berggren. I would personally like to see more of a neutral and level announce booth. (Koelle,2016)

  1. I like having Jeff in the announce booth even though I am a JGR fan. He brings a level of knowledge that we have not had before and I like the fact he occasionally corrects or disagrees with DW.

  2. Jeff, Mike & Larry would my dream team. Waltrip's time has come & gone.

  3. Mike "Captain Obvious" Joy is annoying. He's constantly saying and pointing out things that are very obvious, it's been frustrating to hear him all these years. Danica Waltrip needs to go too. I hated DW when I was a kid for his loudmouth attitude, but came to love it when he started announcing over a decade ago. But now it's all about Danica Patrick. "Hey guys, let's check in with Danica, she's running 35th, putting together a solid run...." Really, WTF?? And Gordo isn't too bad, he's doing all right, just think he needs some younger blood around him, but definitely keep Larry McReynolds around as the technical/mechanical analyst.

  4. I think their announcing is very biased. I get incredibly tired of hearing about Cryle Busch. Enough already. Also, I wasn't crazy about Gordon giving a compliment, albeit backhanded, because he then said he has to change his attitude off track towards drivers that have been around longer. Respect goes both ways. Gordon needs more experience in the booth and Waltrip, what can I say. His time has passed.

  5. I think the top three are the best in nascar for commentary.
larry mac must go as we all know as he is boring and we all know when the cars need gas and tires.
keselowski is a spoiled kid and has a bigger mouth than fist.
don't pay any attention to such a loud mouthed idiot.

  6. The most annoying booth team is the NBC team. Steve Letart, Jeff Burton, and Kyle Petty are just plain bad news in the booth. Dale Jr is refreshing but he really needs better partners. Fox is the best racing broadcast but DW needs to go. Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr bring driver expertise and Larry Mc brings the crew chief point (NBC needs his counter part, but not Letart).
