Tennessee Connections in Greatest Day Of Motorsports

When it comes to Sunday, the memorial day triple play is named the Greatest Day Of Motorsports. Formula 1 has the Monaco Grand Prix in Monaco in most places in the United States enjoy breakfast with the Monaco Grand Prix. Then we head to Indianapolis for Lunch with the Indianapolis 500 and this year is especially one of the most special ones for a few reasons. It's the 100th Running, It's Sold Out, and The Local Blackout in Indianapolis has been lifted for the first time since 1950. After a driver kisses the bricks in Indy, we head to Charlotte for Dinner with the Coca-Cola 600. This day of Racing has a local touch to me in to of the races this weekend and that is one competitor in the Indianapolis 500 and one competitor in the Coca-Cola 600 are from Tennessee.
When it comes to the Indianapolis 500, The driver of the #21 for Ed Carpenter Racing, Josef Newgarden is from Hendersonville Tennessee. Josef is a heavy favorite to win Sunday's Indianapolis 500 and is my pick for the win on Sunday. Newgarden has raced in the Indianapolis 500 4 times where his best finish of 9th came last season. Newgarden currently sits 12th in points and a win in Sunday's Indianapolis 500 could push Newgarden's run for the Championship. Over his career Newgarden has 2 wins all last season. Newgarden is surely one of the favorites for the Indianapolis 500 after qualifying 2nd to James Hinchcliffe. I will certainly keep my eye on the Tennessean this Sunday as should most of you!
On Sunday Night the 57th Running of the Coca-Cola 600 will happen and with one entry from Knoxville Tennessee. The 2011 Daytona 500 Champion Trevor Bayne will drive the #6 For Roush Fenway Racing. So far in 2016 a rebuild of Roush Fenway Racing has been seen and with more work Roush could become the powerhouse they once were. Trevor Bayne made some pretty unusual moves, for Trevor, last weekend in the Sprint Showdown and then again in the All Star Race where he finished 7th. Trevor will represent the State of Tennessee in the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday where the Tennessee native could pick up his second career victory in the 2nd biggest race on the Circuit. I would keep my eye on the man from Knoxville,TN as he rolls into Charlotte for the 600! Bayne will make start #107 on Sunday and the kid from Knoxville has a string of Top 10's from Bristol, Talladega, and Dover along with winning segment 1 of the Sprint Showdown last Saturday Afternoon. Trevor will need to use that aggressive driving style he used last weekend for 600 miles on Sunday to win his second career victory and punch his ticket into the Chase. (Koelle,2016)
