McDowell Proves He's a Threat

This past weekend in Talladega Alabama, Michael McDowell proved to the NASCAR world he was a threat at these superspeedways. McDowell, whose best finish of 7th came at the superspeedway in Daytona, finished 21st in Sunday's Geico 500, That finish was not a testament to the times McDowell assisted many drivers in the Draft, nor the moments he would build his way back from the rear. McDowell started 31st and made it all the way up to the Top 5 at one point in the race. McDowell would first be
involved in the big one in the apex of turns 1 and 2 where he was running up top with his Richard Childress Racing Alliance teammates. McDowell brought it to pit road and the Thrivent Financial pit crew got to work and kept the #95 on the lead lap. McDowell was still in contention to win this thing as the expectation around the garage was that we weren't done wrecking yet. It would turn into a Survival race. When the green flag flew after that big crash McDowell seemed faster than before, racing well with the pack. That was until someone behind McDowell pushed him into Danica and that caused a chain reaction that McDowell was in the midst of. McDowell would be knocked around a little bit and told the crew the car was in rough shape. They brought it to pit road but they knew without another big one their shot was done and would just fight for whats left. That is where McDowell ended in 21st.  “We fought hard.  We overcame adversity,” said McDowell after the race.  “We were in position there to have a top 10 and we just got caught up in a wreck.  Not sure exactly
what happened, just got hit from behind, ran into the No. 10 and she spun.  It was just one of those chain reaction deals.  I will have to go back and see.  Everyone did good, the Thrivent Financial Chevrolet was up front, got some TV time, was running hard, unfortunately, we didn’t get the finish.” McDowell will continue behind the wheel this weekend at Kansas where the team raced to a 36th place finish. McDowell will look to continue a improvement trend in 2016 where he is trying to improve on his 2015 finishes. McDowell has a best finish of 35th in 2014 and best start of 23rd in 2012.
