Derrike Cope Racing - Underfunded Team Spotlight #1

A team that continues to fight is one that will succeed. You see that in Derrike Cope Racing. This is one of the hardest working teams in the NASCAR Xfinity Series that continues to make gains every single week. High field sizes and accidents on the track are something that has hurt the #70 Chevrolet Camaro so far in 2016 but the team continues to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's a group of great people with a great driver that continues to show me they are one of the true underdogs in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Garage. Imagine that though a Daytona 500 champion not in a highly funded ride. When it comes to the 1990 Daytona 500 the team considers that the past and live in the present unlike certain people in the garage in all three of NASCAR's top divisions. 3 weeks into the NASCAR Xfinity Series season and DCR has made 1 of the 3 races. Not making the top 36 at Daytona and having a practice crash before
qualifying and putting in overtime to get the back up car in prime racing condition. Field size has been one problem facing DCR over the last few races. While The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is having issues filling the field the Xfinity Series has had 43 to 42 cars each week which guarantees some cars will be going home. Unfortunately that car has been the #70 to many times recently. With excellent supporters like Nathalie Bijeau and her company Ice-Aid and E-Hydrate it
keeps the motivation up on the team and these teams look at missing races differently. They look at the painful side of it but they also look at the fact hey we can go next week and try our hardest again doing something we absolutely love. I have learned over the last few years with teams like these that you have to celebrate the inner victories. A 20th place finish to a JR Motorsports ride or driver is just disappointing to the team and driver but for teams like Derrike Cope Racing a 20th is a win! That is something I find so fascinating about our sport and I want to thank Jordan Anderson for pointing this out. One week you can finish 10th, the following weekend you can miss the race. These teams celebrate the victory when they can and that is something that commonly passes by race fans. As the team run onto Phoenix they continue to live the dream of racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and they continue to
show that passion that it takes to win. A win will come someday. Rather it be a literal win or just a Top 15 it is coming for DCR. We want to thank Nathalie Bijeau for all of the photos used in this article! For those who don't know Nathalie she is with Ice-Aid, an amazing product that keeps your drinks cold! Ice-Aid is one of the sponsors on Derrike Cope Racing's #70! Thanks for the pictures Nathalie! (Koelle,2016)

  1. So proud of this team. There is no way that they will back down. As for Nathalie Bijeau, I am proud to call her my niece, but I always have. She is a hard worker but even more, an amazing person. Keep going DCR, you'll make it better and better as the year goes on. The Theriault family ♥♥
