What Does ARCA Testing In January Mean For February?

When it comes to testing in January many wonder on how it helps or not and many drivers will tell you it does. It gives them on track experience along with getting them back into a car and back into the swing of being in a race car every weekend. We brought in ARCA Racing Driver Kyle Lockrow to help us get down to the bottom of this testing question!
We asked Kyle How does testing in January help? and he gave us a pretty lengthy answer but we will break it up to help give you the fans a better understanding. His first part of his answer was as listed."Well, this testing is different than what the NASCAR guys do because ARCA uses this session as an evaluation of drivers who have never been to a major superspeedway.  If the drivers can prove themselves worthy and mature enough to handle the task at hand, as well as the speed, then ARCA Officials will give you approval to run races at those speedways." This is why you see some drivers at the test in January but not at the ARCA speedweeks a few weeks later in February. This is also why you saw drivers like Danica Patrick, Chase Elliott, among other drivers in the ARCA Race in February because NASCAR wants to see if these drivers are ready to tackle the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway along with Talladega Superspeedway. His next part of his answer was "While some drivers who participate in testing are mostly for approval purposes, other drivers (Part or Full Time) are using this as
a way to gain more experience with drafting. The cars setup is important because Daytona is very much dictated by handling rather than overall speed.  Teams are constantly searching for the right balance with the car and ensuring the car handles well by itself, as well as within a pack of 20 or more cars." This is pretty much what the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series used to use Preseason Thunder for and since the new testing rule was implemented in all 3 of NASCAR's major divisions a few years ago you don't see testing like we used to. It was a rule that was meant to save teams money but honestly it hurts rookies who have never been to tracks. The final part of Kyle Lockrow's answer was "While most fans look at testing and wonder what the importance or purpose is, teams can gain so much knowledge to add to the notebook that not only works for the Daytona race, but with the Aero package that ARCA runs can be transferred into a Talladega setup potentially." Many teams in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards either features new drivers and when it comes to
testing it helps the driver get acquainted with the team they are with, We thank Kyle Lockrow for answering our question about the importance of Testing.
