When it came to 2015 there was a ton of on the edge of your seat excitement. From the green flag at the 57th Annual Daytona 500 to the Checkered Flag at The Ford 400 in Homestead. We had our fare share of huge wrecks, we had some head to head rivalries, along with a few different moments that just left fans in amazement. In 2015 we saw that drivers can still retire on top as Jeff Gordon did this season. With one win at Martinsville it gave Gordon the opportunity for one last Championship win which was just what he wanted. A regular season
that was just good enough to land him in the chase led to a playoff season that had Gordon as the Dark Horse and then winning at Martinsville to put Gordon in position to finally win that 5th title that had been so elusive to him over the past few years. True Gordon did not win the title but I think deep down after the Homestead Race Gordon felt as if he had achieved just what he wanted that day. The whole season was built up just to see one of the most emotional victories we have ever seen and certainly one of the most Crowd Favored victories in 2015.
One of the other emotional moments we had in 2015 had to be Kyle Busch's wreck at Daytona. I was in attendance for that race and I remember seeing Kyle Busch's car nail the inside wall in the Hardest crash I had ever seen in person. It was one of those wrecks where I personally thought we would never see Kyle Busch back in a race car ever again or even worse. I remember when it happened very well. Fans all around were either in tears or in just shock and affraid that Rowdy would not get out of that car. When he did many of the fans felt relieved but knew Kyle had to be hurt. The MRN crew tried to keep fans in the grandstands focused on the race that we were in attendance but you could not help but continue to refresh twitter during the race waiting to hear how Rowdy was. 4 Months later many of those people sitting in the grandstands at Daytona were watching the Sonoma race on Fox. Many were cheering for Kyle to overcome what he had done and
Kyle came back knowing what he needed to do and he did just that. Having a consistent Chase Kyle found himself on the inside of the Final Four. During the Final Laps Kyle Busch found himself in the lead and landed his 4th win of 2015. He would hoist the title as many fans celebrated and was happy to see the comeback be so successful!
Wrecks? You like wrecks? Well if you do 2015 was certainly wreck filled. We started the Sprint Unlimited with wrecks including a hard crash between Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle. Then we got to Daytona 500 Qualifying where Reed Sorenson got into Clint Bowyer and caused a pile up, Then the Xfinity Series had to steal the spotlight with Regan Smith's flip shortly after halfway and then with Kyle Busch's vicious crash into the inside wall. The Daytona 500 was calm until the last lap when Austin Dillon and Jeff Gordon made contact and caused a huge wreck. That was the wreck that
put the caution out that officially declared Joey Logano the Victor of the 57th Daytona 500. The following weekend for the cup series as the big one in Atlanta happened, Involving Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Joe Nemachek, among others in the middle of Turns 3 and 4. A few months later NASCAR returned to Daytona, A wreck filled race that had Dale Earnhardt Jr in the front majority of the race. And how Jr races at these tracks He got the front row seat to what was about
to happen. As the field came past the Finish line Denny Hamlin got turned and he came back up the track and into Austin Dillon which then sent Dillon's car into the catchfence. It left many NASCAR fans who stayed awake to see the race breathless. It knocked the air out of him along with me. Another Daytona crash that left me thinking we had lost Austin Dillon. Thankfully it landed ground first instead of drivers side. It was a crash that scared alot of people but when Austin got out the fans all around went crazy and cheered, We stayed pretty calm except for Ben Kennedy's catchfence crash. Talladega came in October and many of NASCAR's top drivers were on the outside looking in. Harvick would be would of them but he then caused a large wreck that would keep Dale Earnhardt Jr out and Harvick would be in. That was a controversial crash also that landed Joey Logano in Talladega Victory Lane. When it comes to crashes
2015 was one of the most crashiest seasons in a while.
If you want controversy look no further than 2015. The whole season was full of moments that left fans just wondering why or what did I just see? It all started in Daytona in January with Joey Logano winning the Daytona 500. Joey was leading as the field entered turn 3. The caution came out and that sent Joey to victory lane. Many fans began to wonder why did they not just let the field race back to the checker. When it came to that race NASCAR wanted to make the racing safer and
when that last lap crash happened Larson made some heavy contact with the inside wall. That was why NASCAR threw the caution. This scenario would also be seen at Talladega 9 months later when Dale Earnhardt Jr and Joey Logano were battling for the win. NASCAR had instituted a new rule that only one green white checker would be used. When Kevin Harvick did not get going it caused a multi car crash that would ultimately send beer cans flying from the stands in Talladega, AL. Numerous fans would say they would never watch NASCAR again and so on and so on. Many Jr fans would try to show evidence that Jr had won but come Martinsville no change would happen. Another controversial thing would include Kyle Busch and his Championship Victory many fans did not think that Busch deserved to even be in the final four yet alone the chase. The year started with Controversy and it ended with controversy and well no matter what controversy gets brought up we still had one of the most entertaining seasons in a very long time.
Last year it was like everyone hated Brad Keselowski but this year his teammate Joey Logano got the honors of getting into a few rivalries. Kevin Harvick also had a few rivals including at Talladega where it seemed that everyone but Joey Logano disliked Kevin Harvick. At Martinsville we finally saw the side of Matt Kenseth some fans wanted to see and other fans lost respect for Matt or just did not like Matt any more.
In 2015 we saw a ton of things we never thought we would see ever but it makes the mold for what will come in 2016. 2016 should be just as good if not better and I can see how it will be better especially with the new rules package.
