Bobby Allison - NASCAR Hall Of Fame Spotlight

When it comes to family of legends you certainly think of Earnhardt's, Petty's and certainly Allison's. Bobby Allison is our second NASCAR Hall Of Fame Spotlight.
Bobby Allison was and still is a fan favorite driver even though he has not driven a race car in 27 years many fans still acknowledge the feats that Bobby did when he drove a NASCAR.
Bobby made his NASCAR debut in 1961. Bobby made four starts that season crashing in his third race and having an axle problem in the fourth one. In that season he drove the number 40 for Ralph Stark. In his first race he made a total of 50$ for finishing 20th in his debut at Daytona. Bobby did not return to NASCAR until 1965 where he drove 2 more races than he did in 1961. He tuned in his first Top 10's of his career but this would be just the beginning. At Oxford Plains Speedway Bobby led 238 of the races 300 laps to win his first career NASCAR National Series Race. In
that race Bobby would lap the the field at least once. After that race Bobby would go on to win 2 more races that season. From 1966 to 1983 Bobby Allison won 80 races at numerous tracks. In 1983 Bobby won 6 races en route to his first and only NASCAR Championship.
In 1987 Bobby Allison had one of the most harsh wrecks in NASCAR History at the Talladega Superspeedway. Bobby's car blew a tire and at that time restrictor plate's weren't a thing yet and Bobby's car caught air and went into the catch fence. This would be a revolutionary wreck at the restrictor plate would be brought in after this race at tracks like Talladega.
In one of the final races of his career Bobby was able to race his son Davey for the win where he won his first Daytona 500. In that same year Bobby Allison had a career ending wreck at Pocono. A crash that would put Dick Trickle in Bobby's #12 for the Stavola Brothers.
In 2011 NASCAR Revealed the 2nd class that would be going into the NASCAR Hall Of Fame along with David Pearson, Lee Petty, Ned Jarrett, and Bud Moore.
I had the oppurtunity to meet Bobby Allison along with his brother Donnie and his Great Nephew Justin Allison all very nice people. Ironically today is Bobby Allison's 78th birthday. We here at the NASCAR News Source want to wish Bobby a Happy Birthday and a Congrats on a great career that has influenced many drivers today. (Koelle, 2015)
