What's The Problem? - Cup Regulars in Other Series

In a new series here on The NASCAR News Source we will ask the questions that we think is making our sport look bad. We will look at the issues that hurt viewership and attendance. Also we will cover the good thing about the issues. Our first issue that is on the table is NASCAR Sprint Cup Drivers being allowed to race in the lower series like the Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck series along with the ARCA Racing Series. Drivers like Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick will come to these series with younger drivers and dominate the race making fans just wait an extra day to watch the cup race on Sunday. Having cup regulars in the series is good to a point. In the fact that if an Xfinity Series regular can beat a Cup regular that particular driver proved that he can drive with the bigger series drivers. Recently we have seen drivers like Erik Jones, Chase Elliott, along with a few other drivers who can see that cup ride getting closer. In some cases cup regulars will come to the
Xfinity Series looking to impress team owners and possibly get a new and better funded ride. These drivers include Michael McDowell, Jeb Burton and Alex Bowman who are currently driving underfunded rides that have talent and look to the Xfinity Series to show it in higher dollar rides. Michael McDowell has came so close to victory lane over the years in the Xfinity Series, he has been in the Xfinity Series long
enough that he is considered a veteran and Michael knows how to wheel a race car. He is certainly one of those drivers who has worked for every ride he drives and that what makes people like him. Despite not being in high funded rides there is barely ever a time you will see Michael without a smile on his face because he looks at past rides he's driven.
Jeb Burton is a driver who has drove in high dollar equipment but due to lack of sponsorship he lost that ride. Jeb is not one of the drivers in the
series that uses his name to get him in higher funded rides like certain drivers in NASCAR but instead wants to use his talent. Jeb is a very nice guy and with a higher funded ride he could be up in the Top 10 every week.
I brought up these 2 drivers because of the way they race in the Xfinity Series. They limit their appearance in the series and that's what I feel like Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, etc. needs to do and trust me more people will watch the race.
The thing fans really hate is when an Cup Regular has to cheat to win and yes I know the height rule is not enforced in the Cup Series but you still need to follow the rules in the series you race in. It would be kind of like me going back to little league baseball and using PED's to help me hit home runs. If you fail one inspection as a cup regular in the Xfinity Series you are out of the Xfinity Series.
These are my opinions of what is wrong with the Xfinity Series and how we can fix them.  (Koelle, 2015)

  1. Your argument is flawed...

    A) As a race fan, I WANT to watch 'Great Drivers" race to win - in ALL Classes
    B) Look to attendance of the K&N Pro Series races - no PROS in those very often..and look at their ticket sales
    C) Most DRIVERS don't build the cars they drive - so if a car is found to have a rules violation - that is on the TEAM...why put it on the driver?
    D) If I can see MY FAVORITE DRIVER in the TRUCK RACE / XFINITY RACE & CUP RACE it adds Value to my race weekend.

    1. You're being short sighted. If already established drivers continue to take up the good seats in Xfinity, where will the drivers of the future come from? As far as ticket sales go, the stands are empty and tv ratings are down even when the races are filled with cup drivers.

    2. Flip side - look at how hard it is for unknown drivers to get SPONSORS for a team to compete...w/o NAMES no sponsors, no sponsors no teams, no teams, no series... people don't pay to watch "NOBODYS"

    3. Every driver was a "nobody" at one point in their career. Without getting the best rides they will stay nobodys.
